A Man on a Mission
Last Sunday at Myrtle House Community Church, Martin O'Brien delivered an impactful sermon on being “Men and Women on a Mission." The sermon explored the essence of being individuals with a mission and emphasised the importance of understanding our purpose in both corporate and individual contexts.
Martin began by posing two critical questions: "What does it look like to be a man or woman on a mission?" and "What's my mission?" He highlighted that each one of us has a unique mission designed by God. Our missions may vary, but we are all called to be on mission every day, regardless of where we find ourselves.
He stressed the significance of embracing the truth that we are designed to mission together, not always going solo. To illustrate this point, he introduced the Greek word "Koinonia," which signifies a sense of communion, partnership, and shared purpose among believers. We are meant to come together, united by a common mission and purpose.
We were reminded that the mission of the Church goes beyond Sunday services, that we are the Church, and mission occurs wherever we are, in our workplaces, homes, schools, and communities.
The sermon concluded with the affirmation that every individual is indeed on a mission, albeit in different places and in different ways. No mission is greater or lesser than another; each mission has a purpose and plays a vital role in God's overall plan.
